What To Expect
STRIPER SEASON:
May 15 — October 15
TYPICAL DAY:
At first light, we’ll meet at a launch in Southern Maine (Greater Portland/Yarmouth Area) with the best available fishing conditions. The day might include anything from poling shallow water mud flats with tailing stripers, casting flies to breaking waves on the rocky coast, working quiet back estuaries, or poling our Southern Maine beaches sight fishing for cruising striped bass.
WHAT TO BRING:
Hat
Polarized sunglasses
Comfortable clothing appropriate for the current weather conditions (it is always cooler on the water).
Non marking shoes
If you have any questions on what to bring, reach out to Ben, he’s always happy to help..
There are always snacks on board and plenty of water in stainless steel water bottles. Plastic water bottles are highly discouraged as Ben Whalley Fishing LLC participates in COSTAS #KickPlastic program.
An iced cooler will be ready for any beverages or snacks that need to be kept cold.
No additional fishing license required.
BOAT & EQUIPMENT:
Capt. Ben operates a custom Ankona Cayenne 17’ technical poling skiff. This boat is built to pole water as skinny as 5” and also performs great while running the bay or working the rocky coast. The skiff is fully equipped with a full quiver of the latest Orvis Helios setups.
Note: Shallow water skiffs can be unstable, talk to Capt Ben during booking to ensure you this vessel will be a good fit.
CANCELLATION POLICY & PAYMENT:
$200 deposit (per day) is required at the time of booking. Cash, check or Venmo preferred. Credit cards or PayPal require an additional 5.5% processing fee.
Trips cancelled outside of 30 days or due to weather will receive a full refund of their deposit. Reservations may be rescheduled for future dates without penalty.
Cancellations made within 10 days of the booked day will be paid in full by the customer. Weather cancellations will be discussed with the client but are ultimately up to the guide’s discretion.
